final exam reveiw

1. Explain how to get to the server drives and your folder.-   You first double click on the server drive then go and fine the T drive then click photojournalism then you would have to click whatever period your in and find your name and load any picture you want.

2. Explain how we use blogger.com in this class- We use it to post our assignments and we would talk about them as well

3. Explain the process of creating a pinhole camera - first you would have to buy a oat meal can and make sure you empty in all the way first. Then cover it up in black inside and on the lid then you get a piece of foil and poke a whole in it and put it on the side of your pin whole camera and cover it up with black construction paper. Then you put a piece of print paper in to take your photo.

4. Explain how the pinhole camera works and how the image is transferred to the paper inside- the light is exposed to  the print paper. If you were to expose the print paper for too long your photo would turn black you would have to do expose the paper for just the right amount of time depending on how much exosposer you have on the print paper.

5. Know how to define and explain the 10 rules of composition, these 10 rules will be a MAJOR portion of the final and you better know how to recognize these rules, explain these rules and show me you understand them:

5a.  Rule of thirds-explains what part of an image the human eye is most strongly drawn towards first.

5b. Balancing Elements- If you were to have small and big subjects or dark or light subjects in the photo.

5c. Leading Lines-A line in the photo that leads to the subject in the photo.

5d. Symmetry and Patterns (repetition)- A subject in the photo that repeats its self like a row of chairs

5e. Viewpoint- Taking a picture at an different angle.

5f. Background/simplicity- A simple back round like a blue sky.

5g. Create depth-A photo thats really in focus.

5h. Framing-To put a Frame around the subject in your photo.

5i. Cropping- To zoom in on a subject in the photo.

5j. Mergers and avoiding them- Its something in the photo that would be distracting to the viewer to avoid it you would have use a simple back round.

6. Explain how action and emotion impact a photograph-It brings more empasis in the photo as if the photographer is right there telling you about the picture where he or she took it and how it affected them.

7. Explain how a photo can "tell a story"- well its been said that a picture has a thousand words it depends on how much action is being portrayed in the photo and emotion as well.

8. Explain what the word "multimedia" means and share some examples of how we have seen them in class (on the blog)- multimedia is kinda like a cell phone you send text share videos you can go on line in class the multimedia we use is the blogger so we can post photos and videos.

9. Know how to correctly write a caption. I HIGHLY suggest you rewrite the rules on your blog and find at least 2 photos on the internet, post them on your blog and write correct captions for them. This will be a MAJOR portion of the exam as well.

Caption rules - 1st sentence
Subject -- action verb (present tense) -- object -- how -- why -- when -- where.
The verb should be in present tense and the sentence should answer the 5Ws and 1H.
2nd sentence
Subject -- verb (past tense) -- object (describes background [context] of the situation shown in picture.)
The verb should be in past tense and the sentence should provide background info we couldn't get from looking at the sentence.

Here is Yang and Todd about to embark on there most deadliest assassination ever it is the dead of night. They were sent by there master to kill the corrupt emperor to end his corrupt dynasty.

Joe and bob are all fired up for there epic battle Against an  army of dragons sent to destroy there village. Little did they know they did not have arrows.

10. Explain how "strong action" verbs enhance a caption- They bring more entertainment for the reader and viewer.

11. Explain how ethics come into play in regards to photojournalism and compare and contrast this with fashion photography. You really need to get the idea that changing photos to fit a need or to make something look like something else is VERY unacceptable in photojournalism.

12. Explain the difference between a portrait and a self portrait.- self portrait is a photo of your self and a portrait is  a picture of someone else

13. Explain what characteristics of a good portrait are.  use your rules of photography and to be creative.

14. Explain what the major differences are between newspaper and yearbook.-newspaper shows whats going on at school and year book is about the whole year in general.

Definitions you are responsible for (I highly recommend you post these on your blog with the definitions and make sure they are correct, many of the ones you posted on your blog previously were INCORRECT. All definitions need to relate directly to photojournalism. Example: many of you defined burning as "pain that feels hot as if it were on fire" , when the correct answer is "burning- increases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker."):

1. Aperture-
an opening, usually circular, that limits the amount of light that can enter the camera

2. Shutter- a  device for opening and closing the aperture of a camera lens to expose film

3. Exposure-
the act of presenting a photosensitive surface to rays of light.

4. F-stop-
the setting of an adjustable lens  as indicated by an f number.

5. Single lens reflex- a camera with a single lens.

6. Negative-
Negative are form by transparent materials and the lights are dark and the dark's are light .  Mirror bending The light has a little bit of force which bends the paper.   7. Positive-
noting an image in which the brightness values of the subject are reproduced so that the lightest areas are shown as the darkest Negative. 8. Contact sheet
the Prints in the photo.
9. Agitation-
Stiring the chemicals10. Enlarger- A machine used to en large a negative print.

11. Stop bath-water used to clean photos.

12. Fixer- Water use to dilute the photos.

13. Safe light- a light used to protect the photos.

14. Burning-
i ncreases the exposure to areas of the print that should be darker. 15. Dodging-
Expose less than the rest during processing or enlarging.

Abandon theme parks

I would like to visit this amusement park in Hobara Japan because the Japanese always have cool stuff and it would be interesting to look at the history of a different country as well. Also i have always to travel out side the country. This ride looks like alot of fun if it was still running . The 5 five places that would be interesting Forts, old missions, old plantations , Castles, and old cemetery's,.

I would really enjoy taking photos here because there is so much history there and its apart of my Hispanic heritage and my faith as well. The interest I have for these kinds of places is the fact that most of my ancestry takes place here and I really like history as well as Hispanic history. Well i would probably drive i would have to pay for gas and a hotel and the rule i would have to consider is to not take anything from the historical site.

self potrates

What i think makes a good is useing the fundamentals and techniques and having a good knowledge of the camera as well. And paying attention to detail and to avoid mergers . Also its good to be creative as well think out side the box grab more attention to the eye. And just have fun with it.

My first print

1. The projector is in the picture is really the only thing that is in focus you can see that the two students are not in focus. I think the reason why the students are not in focus is because there s too much ex poser in the camera.

2. I think the contrast in my photo is horrible the two students look pitch black and what i think went wrong is that the aperture in the camera was too big.

3. The rules i used for this picture was the rule of thirds and leading lines.

4. yes there are dark spots on the on in the picture and im not sure why those spots are there.

5.no there are no print rings.

6. Yes.

These two students jim and bob are hard at work with there art projects that are soon to be due in a few shot minuets.

ethics in fashion potography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer.

They made her neck longer and lowered  her eyes and made her hair longer they pretty much altered her whole face.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?

Its not at all because its false advertisement and a lie and im sure a lot of girls look up to that not knowing its all fake.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?

Well if there was someone in witness protection trying to run away from a killer then yes i think it would be appropriate.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?

Changing the furniture and your clothes ma by the way you smell . The changes that are not cool are altering peoples faces for false advertisement ,plastic surgery and in attitude like bad attitude.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.

Its about fashion and whats new in cloths and people and photo j is we take a topic and post photos and talk about these photos.

6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?            It has no relationship its all Fake and media.

Negative s Evaluation

1. From looking at your negatives, how many of your photos do you think turned out well?

Well not any of them Because I had a problem trying to adjust the ex poser in the camera.

2. How many of your photos appear like they will not turn out well? Why do you think these photos did not turn out (Ex: Over/under exposed, not focused, bad composition)?

The majority of the photos were over exposed really because once again i had trouble with adjusting the camera .

3. Select the negative image that you think will turn out the best when it is printed. Why do you think this photo will turn out well?

The photo that my partner took in a portable art class will most likely to come out the best. Because its well really the only photo that is well took and exposed.

4. What technical aspects of photography (focus, exposure, composition) do you think are present in your best negative? What evidence can you provide from the appearance of the negative to support your answer?

Well i think the technical aspect that is focus because in the photo is the two guys drawing in art class and that seems to be the main subject of the photo.

5. What advanced composition techniques (Ex: rule of thirds, leading lines) that you have learned in class are present in your favorite negative?

There was a photo i took that had leading lines and repetition it was in this classroom with many rows of computers and two students hard at work. But I dont think it came at right at all.

photo minipulation

A.This story is mostly about how these photographer s around the world altered their photos just to make a cretin topic either better or worse. And how its ironic that two photographers lost their jobs on April fools day.

 B. I honestly think its unethical because if the topic is already controversial in the first place i think there's no need for making it worse then it all ready is .  But i also think its helpful in some ways for example if a university is trying to bring more students to their campus like you see in that one picture when they added the black guy into the crowd full of white folks to show other students that this certain university has diversity.

  A. I think this photo is unethical because at the time this was a very touchy subject for many Americans and i think its just wrong for the media to things worse then they already are.

This photo is not unethical at all because they were just simply trying to make do with the format of the cover  All they did was take those two pyramids and alter them to make them closer because of the size of the cover.

Drug Cartel

What i think about the Cartel is i think its horrible what these people are doing to the citizens in Mexico and just Incessant people .   "When I arrived in Juarez," says Antebi, "within an hour, over the police scanners, a body has been found. And maybe 30 minutes later, another body. I think this outrageous slaughtering people for what? some thing that only gives satisfaction for only minuets Stuff like this makes you think about these pot head kids who are smoking something that some guy bled all over those kids cant get that through there thick skulls! The only thing i can do ... The only thing anyone can do is just pray for all this chaos to stop.

My Favorite photo is the first photo with the abandon car with a dead body wrap in a purple and white blanket. The technical aspect that this Photographer used was simplicity Because the main focus is the abandon car the reason i like this photo is well its eerie feeling to know that there's a rotting cadaver in the back of a abandon car and it gives you a really good idea about goes down in Mexico.

Post Shoot reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get close, capture real moments, and capture action or emotion? Explain how you dealt with these challenges.

The challenges i faced was trying to apply my photos to some rules like the rule of thirds and the rule of lines stuff like that . And to make sure the lighting is right .

2. What technical aspects of photography (focus, exposure, composition) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

The technical aspects i ran into were mostly focus and exposure . Because of the different lighting in the class rooms.

3. Explain how you attempted to use at least one of the advanced composition techniques you learned in class while shooting.

I used the rule of lines in this one class room with rows of computers with two students working.

4. What would you do differently the next time you shoot to improve your photographs?

I would have worked on the light exposer because every photo i took had the meter in negative

B.  the sequence of images that are most powerful to me is when Ian is coming back home . Because he get s like 2 or 3 girl ferinds . Gets to see his folks as well he also gets married .

C.  All the photo s took you step by step showing what he went through elisting in the army.

3.   A. The photo s captions are mostly in both past and present tense.

      B.  these captions enhance these photos by giving more explanation to the viewer .

4.     Write three of your own captions to photos without looking at the caption written by the photographer. Be sure they are written in the following form. For this assignment you can make up names and facts to write your captions.
Ian is thinking of the people he left back home his mom ,dad and ferinds he wonders if this is the right discussion.

marblo marine

2.   A. The other things he used in the slide show was a voice over of the Marine and stop motion of the fire fight in the beginning as well in the middle of the presentation. At the end he made a video of him self talking about the war as well.

       B. The stop motion part gave more defantion to the fire fight . The voice over for the marine gave what i think more emotion to the photos.

3    A.   The most powerful image i thought was the photo of the marine with his beat up face smoking a cigarette Because you can picture the Chaos and the stress the marine s have to go through every day . Looks as if they are scared in their eyes.
      B.  Is the few photographs were the Marine was in therapy thinking very deeply of his emotions and thoughts on the war. And excersizing his demons.

       C. It enhances the photos by giving them more emotion and also the marine kinda explains what he was thinking during that time in the photo. Its also more interesting to the viewer as well.

     D. They work by the voice over from the marine. He kinda talks you through it and the photos help the viewer see and understand the passion and grief and pain He has towards the war and his country.

statesmen

Why i like this pic is because the guy is singing his song while on top of a dude in a bear suite wich is pretty funny. I wish i was there if only the tickets were not so expensive.

fall contest

what really garbed my attention in this photo was the huge explosion of
paint and if you were to look closer theirs a guy sitting in the coroner as if he had a breakdown and his brain exploded . The lighting in this photo is from light to dark there is a lot of contrast used in the corner where the massive explosion of black paint  is at . The content in the photo is balance it goes from the sun light through the window to the very black corner. The ex poser in this photo is black and white.

Great black and white photographers, part 3

In the photo above with the statue the first thing that caught my eye was the huge statue that's covered in drapes standing in front of the really brutal cross. In the next photo that is on top of the last photo the thing that really caught my eye is that weird little spiral next to the chapel. The reason why i chose these photos is Because i have always been attracted stepals and crosses.

The things that i see in the statue photo is the middle of a bustling city i think this photo was taken in new york. I see a coke a cola sign in the back round Many buildings. The major thing that really pops out is the statue covered in drapes standing in front of a massive majestic cross.

The things i smell is the gas coming from the cars passing by i can smell the air also people smoking cigarettes. I smell the mold from the drapes and the sewage , trash bin on the streets as well. i can smell the strange aroma the rain gives off as it hits the pavement.

There are many things that I can hear the cars driving by the rain hitting the ground. The rustling through the trees as well blowing through the drapes that cover the statue. I can also hear Doors being open and closed in other buildings around the statue.

The things i taste is the nasty aroma of the emission s  the cars give off under my throat. And the humidity in the air.

The things i see in the Chapel photo is the dark cloud s and the weird spiral next to the church. I also see different patterns on the walls of the church as well. I see a lot of vines around the chapel.

The things that i smell are the cold wind going in my nostrils. I can smell the old stone wich was used to make the chapel . And the strange aroma of the  vines as well .

There is a few things i can hear like the wind rushing pass my ears and the leaves crashing together as they are bieng taken away by the wind. I can hear the shutters on the old church opening and closing becaus of the fierce wind. I hear  creeks , cracks , and snaps as if the church is breathing.

There not many things i can taste but i can taste the cold dry wind and the and the moister my breath gives off as i look into the steam.

most interesting

this picture is interesting to me because im  also a musician as well so i can relate. This fills the frame by the guys jamin and hoe the spot light on the stage is some what overwhelm by the blackness just giving enough light for the audience to focus on the band.

action or emotion

this picture shows emotion because the young man is taking care of the little girl and you can see the compassion in his eyes.

best story

I think this tells the best story because the orchestra is hard at work learning there music for maybe the next competition or concert they might have.

noting an image in which the brightness values of the subject are reproduced so that the lightest areas are shown as the darkest Negative.     Negative are form by transparent materials and the lights are dark and the dark's are light .  Mirror bending The light has a little bit of force which bends the paper.

avoiding mergers

I know its very hard to see but in this pic the photographer has some people cut out

rule of thirds

This pic Applies because there s one of the towers collapsing at the side of the photo

balance

If you were to look close enough theirs a row of rectangles.

Simplicity

In this photo the blue sky serves as a back round for the twin towers.

framing

framing is as you can see in this photo the two towers next to the twin towers are serving as a border for the photo.
